Doctor of Clinical Psychology

Where Clinical Precision
Meets Human Possibility

I'm Dr. Shandia Johnson, a doctor of clinical psychology, consultant, and entrepreneur. I build systems that unlock potential: in organizations, in leaders, and in the humans who power them.

What is the container, and how does it shape what grows inside it?

Organizational Consulting

The 4 Shifts Framework helps companies develop the managers who make or break culture. Evidence-based. Results-driven. Built to scale.

Advisory

Strategic Advisory

A psychologist's lens applied to business problems, because how people feel inside a system determines how well it runs.

About

"I've always been drawn to what allows people to truly flourish, and what quietly gets in the way."

Credential

Psy.D., Clinical Psychology

Doctoral concentration in Integrative Behavioral Health.

"Precision in understanding people is never merely academic. It carries real consequences."

My Foundation

My path into the science of human behavior was never accidental. From early in my training, I found myself drawn not just to understanding people, but to understanding the systems that quietly shape how they think, how they lead, and how they experience the world.

My doctoral studies in clinical psychology gave me a rigorous framework for that curiosity, and my research deepened it further. My dissertation explored the relationship between depression and African American infant mortality, work that sits at the intersection of mental health, systemic inequity, and public health outcomes. It remains one of the clearest expressions of why I believe that precision in understanding people is never merely academic. It has real consequences.

My Practice

I founded The Brightstone Collective around a belief I return to often: that clinical rigor and an elevated client experience are not in tension with one another. They belong together.

Brightstone offers consultation and development services designed to help organizations and their people move with greater clarity, confidence, and cohesion. Central to this work is the 4 Shifts Framework, my proprietary approach to mid-level manager development.

My Thinking

Across all of my research, a single question persists: how does the environment around us shape what we are able to become? My published work spans depression and African American infant mortality, neuroaesthetics, the psychology of managerial failure, and environmental psychology.

Each paper is available to read in full in The Reading Room.

My Philosophy

I founded Brightstone around a standard I have never been willing to compromise: that every person who enters into this work deserves the full weight of clinical rigor, genuine attention, and deliberate care. Not as a premium offering. As a baseline.

Excellence is not something I reserve for certain clients or certain engagements. It is simply how I work. The depth of insight I bring, the quality of the experience I design, and the precision with which results are delivered reflect a belief I hold deeply: that access to this quality of support should be far more available than it currently is.

Services

I work with a select number of clients and organizations each year. Every engagement begins with a conversation.

Organizational Consulting

For the organizations ready to address what most leadership programs quietly avoid. The transition from individual contributor to manager is one of the most psychologically demanding shifts a professional can face. Most organizations treat it as a skills problem. I address it as a readiness problem, because the research is clear: skills cannot take root without the internal transformation that precedes them.

Through The Brightstone Collective, I offer structured transition programs, team and group workshops, and a comprehensive six-month retainer for leadership cohorts ready for lasting, measurable change. At the foundation of all of it is the 4 Shifts Framework, my proprietary, evidence-based methodology for building managers who are genuinely ready to lead.

The Architecture of Human Potential

"What is the container, and how does it shape what grows inside it?"

The Invitation

The questions that drive my research and my practice are the same ones I bring to the stage: what allows people to truly flourish, and what quietly gets in the way? My aim, in every room, is to offer a perspective grounded in science and delivered with enough clarity and care that it actually changes something.

I speak on a select number of engagements each year, with preference for events where depth is welcome and ideas are taken seriously.

The Research

My doctoral research examined the relationship between maternal depression and African American infant mortality, which occurs at 2.2 times the rate of Caucasian infant mortality in the United States. My dissertation, African American Infant Mortality: The Impact of Maternal Depression, examines the biological and psychosocial factors underlying this disparity. This research continues to inform my practice, my writing, and my belief that precision in understanding people is never merely academic.
